Six years ago a young student named Iris Aper was killed in a ruthless accident at Gent Zuid. The outrageous cycling community left a commemorative white “ghost bike” at the scene of the accident a few days later. A month ago this bike was replaced as the previous bike was crunched by (another) car, even though by now the area is car free. Only a few weeks later this new bike with a commemorative plate for Iris was stolen though. The volunteers of Fietsbult a local cycling organisation can’t believe someone would actually be “as selfish as to steal” something like this. Meanwhile the bike was recovered somewhere near the river in Merelbeke.
