On social media a story was spread by a witness of racism on Bus Line 3 in Ghent. According to the witness account of the incident a 15-year old girl wanted to leave the coach via the back sliding doors. “The doors closed so quickly that her arm got stuck between the sliding doors. She used all her power to try to wriggle out of that situation, but without success. Travelers on the platform informed the bus driver and asked to open the door again. The driver looked into his back mirror and hesitated for a while. When prompted by the other passengers to help the girl and open the doors he yelled ‘she just has to return to her own country’ and still didn’t open the door. The girl then had to kick her way out of the doors and the driver yelled again “hey don’t you ever kick my bus again”. The girl has filed a complaint and De Lijn started an investigation into the bus drivers behaviour.
